Your home’s electrics must be safe to protect you and your family. The best way to ensure this is by having a qualified electrician carry out an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report). In the UK, this should be done every 10 years for a home you own and every five years for a rental property. It’s also a good idea to have an EICR before selling a property so buyers know the condition of the electrics. Commercial properties often need more frequent checks, and some places, like thatched roof houses, might need an EICR for insurance reasons.

What Happens in an Electrical Installation Condition Report?
There are two main parts to an EICR: visual checks and electrical tests.
- Visual Checks: We look at lights and sockets to see if they’re damaged or deteriorating. We check wiring, bonding, earthing, and the consumer unit to ensure it meets current safety regulations.
- Electrical Tests: We put an electrical current into a circuit to measure the resistance of the earthing and check the insulation of the wiring. We also ensure the wires are the right way around (polarity) and that the RCD (trip switch) works within the correct time and specifications.
After the inspection, we provide detailed reports, which can be shared with insurers and tenants if needed. If we find any issues, we take photos and attach them to the report so you know exactly what needs fixing. We’ll also provide a free, itemized quote for any repairs.
